WESTERN COMICS—THE BLACK PHANTOM

WESTERN COMICS
THE BLACK PHANTOM
A reformed bandit queen, The Black Phantom became a defender of justice due to her love for the hero known as The Red Mask. She is unaware The Red Mask's disguise hides the identify of a man she hates—Tom Holt.

The Black Phantom was originally the mastermind behind a series of train robberies, which she carried out with the help of Beast, her massive,  bull whip wielding minion (an early Oddjob prototype). Her twin sister Jicilla was a saloon singer where she became the sweetheart of Tim Holt's friend Chito. Trouble erupts when Chito comes to pick up Jicilla up for their date, but instead sees her twin, Helena, in her Black Phantom costume.

The Black Phantom orders her men to kill Chito by dumping down a well, but Tim Holt sees them carry his friend away and intervenes in his identity as the Red Mask to save him. The Beast and the Black Phantom's other lackeys are rounded up.

However, while trying to escape capture, Helena jumps off a cliff and seemingly perishing—only to reappear later and join forces with The Red Mask as a crime fighting duo.

Now in the public domain, The Black Phantom originally appeared in Tom Holt #25-41, Black Phantom #1-3, and Red Mask # 42-54.
