SIX-GUN JUSTICE SPEED LISTEN
OWEN WISTER
&
HOW THE WEST WAS WRITTEN
Saddle up, cowpunchers. It’s Monday morning and time for a new Six-Gun Justice Podcast Speed Listen. Owen Wister (1860-1938) is often considered the father of western fiction because of his early novels, Lin McLean (1897) and The Virginian (1902).

In this Speed Listen installment, co-host Rich Prosch shares his experiences with Owen Wister and The Virginian and gives some special attention to How The West Was Written, Ron Scheer's three-volume collection of book reviews and blog posts.

WESTERN COMICS—IDAHO

WESTERN COMICS—IDAHO
Idaho, an entertaining Western eight issue series (1963—1965) from Dell features a hard-riding cowboy hero taking on all the familiar challenges of the old West. Idaho foils bank robbers, guards stage coach caravans through hostile Indian territory, frustrates greedy cattle barons with evil intentions against small ranchers—all with a friendly smile and soft-spoken demeanor. Simply drawn and written to appeal to Dell’s younger readers, Idaho also featured some gorgeous painted covers and the attractive packaging that made Dell titles stand out from the pack.
