  1. Another great episode.

You mentioned the Butterfield stage. The January 17, 1947 Lone Ranger episode is titled "Butterfield Stage" and is the second of a four-episode story arc in which the Ranger is tasked with guarding a meteor fragment that is implied to be the source for the eventual discovery of atomic power.

Even more interesting is the Aug. 22, 1945 Lone Ranger episode. "Last Stage West" is literally a remake of Ford's Stagecoach. A stagecoach is caught in a remote location by Apaches on the warpath. The people riding the coach are exactly the same character templates as those in the movie (with a couple of them subtracted to help trim the story into a 30-minute time slot). They interact with one another in pretty much the same way their film counterparts did. Of course, in this instance, they are also joined by the Lone Ranger. And it’s the Ranger (rather than the the Ringo Kid) who performs the dangerous feat of jumping off the stage onto the horses to control them after the reins are dropped.

  3. Tim, after your comment sent me checking, I realized you were referring to episodes of the radio show (that the TV show didn't start until 1949 should have been a clue). The episode from 1945 was actually titled The Last Coach West (as opposed to 'stage') and was indeed stolen directly from the John Ford/John Wayne movie Stagecoach...It was written (plagiarized?) by Bob Green, and starred Bruce Beemer in the role of the Lone Ranger...
