Liked your side point about Walter Hill's Streets of Fire, which I did not realize. It is also interesting because I think that Streets of Fire is a modern re-telling of the Western ethos in a pulp / comic book version of the western ideals. Nice job!
Russ Giffordhttp://www.russgifford.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4382184062705153003.post-71143236807935307782020-03-04T08:26:41.449-08:002020-03-04T08:26:41.449-08:00Another great podcast, guys. My issue about WILD BUNCH - and Peckinpah in general - is his treatment of women. I think THE MAG 7 is good, rather than great. It has a wonderful score, of course, and excellent action scenes but I have problems with some of the casting - not Wallach, Bronson, McQueen or Coburn - the others! I'm also a little prejudiced against it in that the Japanese original - THE SEVEN SAMURAI - is, IMHO, an masterpiece that can't be improved on. But that's just my view. Keep up the excellent podcasting!Andrew McBridehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09856402767418202444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4382184062705153003.post-6695731976528907202020-03-03T16:05:00.461-08:002020-03-03T16:05:00.461-08:00You nailed it on both films. Western movies succeeded because of the triumph of good over evil, white hats over black hats. When the white hats are black hats, as in The Wild Bunch, there's no one to root for or to take pleasure in their success.Preston Lewishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16305388022360857430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4382184062705153003.post-73074596019442736932020-03-02T10:16:40.744-08:002020-03-02T10:16:40.744-08:00Thank you. I vividly recall seeing it with my father. I've owned THE WILD BUNCH in every format from VHS to Blu-Ray and I generally watch it again two or three times a year. For me, The Magnificent Seven is also a film I'll watch when it pops up on TV no matter how far into the movie it may be. Tonight, if I can talk my wife into it, I'll be getting out the DVD.

Can I make one suggestion? Is it possible to put a convenient DOWNLOAD button on the podcast post? I may be the only one, but the best way for me to listen to it is to have it downloaded onto my phone, so I can listen to it even when I'm not home and online.Tim DeForesthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13196984835550136464noreply@blogger.com
